Since it was founded in 1994, the THI has been setting trends in the fields of technology (engineering and IT) and business - with a clear focus on the future topics of digitization and mobility. In the field of health and life sciences, we offer courses that are rooted in medicine and diagnostics and combine digital and engineering developments with economic disciplines. Social interaction and a livable, biodiverse and resource-saving environment are very important to us - with the Neuburg campus we are further expanding the future field of sustainable infrastructure. Courses in design and human-machine interaction are redefining the interplay of design, function and user experience.
In all our courses, the focus is on the close practical relevance. Students always gain insights into the latest developments and can directly apply the knowledge they have acquired in practical projects with companies. With over 140 partner universities worldwide, we ensure that all paths to a successful international career are open.
All of our professors have professional experience in industry and business - this guarantees practical teaching. Small group sizes in seminars also enable direct exchange with professors and lecturers. Practical projects with company partners, which are carried out in small teams, ensure the direct application of the knowledge learned.
The Technical University of Ingolstadt focuses on the areas of technology and business. In addition to outstanding practice-oriented teaching, the THI is characterized by its research strength. Linked to the regional economic structure, the THI positions itself as the leading mobility university in Germany.
An obligatory practical semester in every bachelor's course as well as numerous project and final theses are core features of the application reference. Around 600 students study in cooperation with one of the numerous dual partners. Seminar-like teaching formats in small groups and a variety of internships enable individual support for the students.
As a technical university, it is our aim to actively shape the digital transformation in business and society. To this end, in addition to developing new courses on digitization, we will successively integrate digitally supported courses into our face-to-face teaching.
With more than 40 research professorships, more than 250 scientific employees and a research volume of around 25 million euros pa, the THI occupies an outstanding position nationwide in relation to its size. In BayWISS, the THI is involved in the “Mobility and Transport” group college and coordinates it.
In order to take account of the increasing pace of innovation and the rapid increase in knowledge in all professional fields, the Technical University of Ingolstadt has made academic further education a central concern. The Institute for Academic Continuing Education (IAW) , founded in 2008, brings together all of the university's academic continuing education activities and offers a large number of events and courses under this umbrella. The target group are professionals who want to gain further qualifications while working. The spectrum of offerings at the IAW ranges from part-time master's courses to tailor-made company programs to individual events and public lectures.
THI graduates are well prepared for the export-oriented economy. Every second THI graduate has already gained international experience by the time they complete their studies. 150 partner universities offer students a wide range of opportunities for a stay abroad. Each course contains English-language modules, ten purely English-language courses are currently being offered. The diversity and internationality can be experienced up close on the THI campus.
The main topics of the university are set out in the "THI 2030" strategy. It documents the expansion of the university to 10,000 students and the expansion of teaching and research in the areas of health / life science and construction, environment, energy / sustainable infrastructure. The strategy also includes preparing students for an international and entrepreneurial economy and the challenge of digital transformation in all areas. With the further expansion of the university, the THI would like to contribute to the future viability and economic strength of the Ingolstadt region.
Gender equality in research is a central topic in the EU framework program Horizon Europe. On the one hand, an efficient use of everyone's skills should be achieved, on the other hand, the consideration of the gender dimension in science as a value in itself should be promoted. The THI has always attached great importance to inclusion, gender aspects and the reduction of structural disadvantages. The Gender Equality Plan (GEP) is intended to give new impetus here.
Those responsible hope for this not least through the routines and practices of partners who cooperate with the THI as part of future EU projects. The introduction of the GEP is also the result of the previous development path: In 2009, the THI developed its first equality plan. After its auditing, the THI was awarded the “family-friendly university” certificate. Recently, in 2019, the THI joined the "Family in the University" charter and regularly exchanges information about other offers from a family-friendly university in the Best Practice Club. Especially in the European context, the cooperation of the THI with the student association NICE for the integration of international exchange and degree students should flow into the new institutional framework of the GEP.
It is now a matter of strategically bringing together the actors and the variety of existing measures - be it at the level of science, administration and students, regionally or in the European research area. Against this background, the GEP and its further development are anchored centrally in the university management.
The THI campus is in the center of Ingolstadt. In addition to the Danube, Klenzepark and Hindenburgpark, the pedestrian zone and the historic old town can be reached within a few minutes' walk. The buildings and rooms centrally located on the Esplanade make the THI a classic campus university.
The current campus on the Esplanade was opened in 1999, and work on the university expansion began in 2011 to make room for the growing number of students. In autumn 2014, the two new buildings for lecture halls and seminar rooms, laboratories and offices as well as a modern, spacious cafeteria could be occupied. Two years later, the CARISSMA research and test center went into operation.
Administrative and organizational support across faculties and institutions is provided by the administrative and service units. The special representatives appointed by the university management coordinate the respective topics throughout the university.
