Founded in 1975, Limerick Institute of Technology is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Limerick population range of 50,000 to 249,999 inhabitants, County Limerick. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location Thurles, Clonmel. Limerick Institute of Technology LIT is an institution of higher education in Limerick, Ireland and is one of 14 member institutions of the Technological Higher Education Association THEA. The Institute has campuses in Limerick city, one in both Thurles and Clonmelin County Tipperary and a regional learning centre in Ennis, County Clare. The main campus is located at Moylish Park adjacent to Thomond Park and houses the Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology and the School of Business and Humanities. The School of Art & Design is located at the Clare Street and Clonmel campuses.

Admission


Minimum Entry Requirements for First Year

In general, applicants for first year must have successfully completed at least 5 subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate or an equivalent international examination.

Maths and either English or Irish are required for most programmes.

There may be additional specific subject and/or grade requirements for some programmes.
Any specific subject or grade requirements will be listed under the heading Minimum Entry Requirements on individual courses.

First Year Undergraduates

All first year undergraduate applications should be made to the Central Applications Office, Tower House, Eglinton Street, Galway (www.cao.ie).  The CAO publish a joint Handbook and Application Form which may be obtained from their website.  The Handbook will provide you with full details of the application procedure.  Read it carefully and make sure that you follow the directions given.  Neither the Institute nor CAO can be responsible for any mistakes you make if you don’t follow the correct procedures.

Entry Requirements:

Higher Certificate Level 6 programmes
You must have 5 O6  or H7 grades or higher at Ordinary level in five Leaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include, Mathematics and a Language (English or Irish). In practice, entry levels are significantly above the minimum and points are calculated from the six best subjects from one sitting, which for Level 7 programmes must be greater than 140 points.

Bachelor Degree Level 7 programmes 
You must have 5 O6 or H7 grades or higher at Ordinary level in five Leaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include, Mathematics and a Language English or Irish.  In practice, entry levels are significantly above the minimum and points are calculated from the six best subjects from one sitting.

Honours Bachelor Degree Level 8 programmes 
You must have 2 H5 grades or higher in two Higher level subjects, together with 4 O6 or H7 grades or higher in four other Ordinary level subjects in Leaving Certificate subjects. Two of these subjects must include. Mathematics and a Language English or Irish. In practice, entry levels are significantly above the minimum and points are calculated from the six best subjects from one sitting.

Non Standard Applicants

Non Standard Applicants are those who are presenting any qualifications other than

Irish Leaving Certificate,

FETAC results or

Standard Academic A-levels from the U.K and Northern Ireland

These applicants should also apply before February 1st. and should fill pages 3 and 4 of the CAO application form with care.

Where possible, please attach appropriate supporting documentation, such as relevant exam transcripts, to the application form.

Exam Certificates should show the name of the Exam/Award, the subject taken and the final grade achieved.
Provisional results are not acceptable.

Accommodation


Accommodation Service

The accommodation service is available from mid-August onwards. Learners organise their accommodation with the help of the list and are, themselves, responsible for arranging terms and conditions. Prospective learners are advised to contact the Accommodation Office as early as possible.

Houses

Share a house/flat with others. Own room, share all other facilities, share all bills equally.

Single room €70 to €75 room only
Twin (share room with other learner) €60 to €63 per person sharing.

A range of accommodation is available in both Thurles and Clonmel, from apartments and houses to 'digs' where a student boards with a local family. A single room costs approx. €65-€70 per week, room only. Accommodation listings are also published in the local newspapers each week.

The Accommodation Office operates on a part-time basis throughout the academic year, with the exception of 6 weeks beginning in August, whereby the office is operated on a full-time basis under the supervision of the Accommodation Officer.

The Accommodation Office offers its service on a referral basis, whereby students receive a list of housing, from which the required housing is selected at the discretion of the students involved.
