Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology is a leader in the integration of technology and learning. Algonquin has incorporated mobile learning into most full-time programs. Admission


ll students applying to the Incoming Study Abroad program must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution outside of Canada and have completed a minimum of one year of studies prior to arrival at Algonquin College.

Academic Courses

  • For direct entry into diploma program courses students must have an academic IELTS of 6, no band below 5.5 or a TOEFL 80 IBT with minimums of 20.
  • For direct entry into degree program courses students must have academic IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6 or a TOEFL 88 IBT with minimums of 22.
  • Students who do not meet the above English entry requirements for academic programs must take English for Academic Purposes (EAP) prior to beginning academic studies.
  • If prerequisites are listed in the course description of courses students wish to take they must ensure that they provide evidence of the equivalent prerequisites that they have taken at their home institution.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

  • Students will be required to take an EAP placement test upon arrival.

Applied Research

  • Students must complete a minimum of 4 months of academic courses work (not EAP) prior to beginning the Applied Research course.
  • Students must, at minimum, pass all courses of study completed prior to the Applied Research course.

Accommodation


Live On-Campus

If you’re attending classes at our Ottawa (Woodroffe*) campus, you may wish to stay at our student residence on campus. You’ll get the opportunity to live with other students just like you and will have all your utilities, accommodations, and meals covered. The Woodroffe campus residence houses 1,050 students in 525 two-bedroom suites. Residents are required to complete a personality profile to help match them with roommates with similar interests, character traits, and sleeping habits.

  • 24-hour security & controlled access
  • Common areas include Games Room, Laundry Room and TV lounge
  • Meal plans are mandatory for first-year residents
  • Costs: $7,210+ $2,000 meal plan for the academic year (8 months)

Live with a Canadian Family

You may prefer to live with a Canadian family in a homestay situation in order to learn about Canadian culture first-hand. You’ll be provided with your own private room, internet access, and your choice of meal plans. It’s a great way to improve your English skills in a supportive environment.

  • Your accommodations and food are totally taken care of
  • The minimum stay in homestay is 8 weeks. Four meal plans are offered. All fees must be paid at time of application.
  • Meal Plan Options and Fees for 8 weeks (56 days) are:
    • Full Board – $1652
    • Half Board – $1500
    • Bed & Breakfast (B&B) – $1250
    • Roomstay (Board only – no meals) – $1150
  • A placement fee of $220 must be paid at the time of application, in addition to any fees for the selected Meal Plan Option. 

Live Off-Campus

You may choose to get your own place, either on your own or with roommates. On average, apartments in Ottawa tend to cost $600-$800/month + utilities + food + living expenses. If you share a house with multiple roommates, those costs will most likely be lower. You can make your own arrangements by visiting the Students’ Association Housing Board.
