Manchester Metropolitan University often abbreviated MMU is a public university located in Manchester, England. The university traces its origins to the Manchester Mechanics Institute and the Manchester School of Design, which formed Manchester Polytechnicin 1970. Manchester Polytechnic then gained university status under the government's Further and Higher Education Act, becoming the Manchester Metropolitan University in 1992. Today, it is headquartered in the city of Manchester, with additional facilities in Cheshire.

Manchester Metropolitan University is an accredited member of the Association of MBAs, and member of the University Alliance, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the North West Universities Association, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the European University Association.

Today, it is also home to the Manchester School of Art, the Manchester School of Theatre, as well as the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) administered in collaboration with the University of Manchester.

Courses

Admission

The minimum standard entry requirements for postgraduate courses are set out below, but each course entry also gives details of the typical entry requirements, so it’s important to read that as well to determine whether you meet the entry requirements for the course.

This is particularly important when courses lead to an award from a professional body as they may have specific entry requirements for the course.

In some cases work experience or success in other fields can be accepted as equivalent to formal qualifications.

Satisfying the entry requirements is not a guarantee of a place. In more popular areas of study, you may be required to achieve grades higher than the minimum requirements and in many cases, you will have to go through an audition, interview or present your portfolio as part of the selection process.

Important information

The University has absolute discretion to make the final decision about which accommodation will be offered to individual students.

*Deadline of 8th August for international students.

How is accommodation allocated?

We try to ensure that accommodation places go to those who will get the most from the experience of living in a residential community of students. This is why we reserve the majority of places for first year students, though we also give priority to disabled students.

We do not group students on University course profile (e.g. students studying on the same course) or prioritise students for a particular hall based on the proximity of their academic building or the course they are studying.

Accommodation Managed by Manchester Met

Accommodation that is managed by the University includes Birley (Dale, Dunham, Naylor, Vine and Warde), Briarfields, Booth, Cambridge, Cavendish, Daisy Bank, Needham Court, Oxford Court.

Partner and Private Accommodation

Partner accommodation is owned and managed by other providers but can be applied for through the Manchester Met application process. This includes Cavendish Place, New Medlock House, Liberty Central or Wilmslow Park.
