The University of Salford was founded in 1967 and is a premier public higher education and research institution in Salford, Greater Manchester, New England. It began as the Royal Technical Institute in 1896 and changed its name to the College of Advanced Technology in 1956. The Royal Charter of 1967 granted the institution university status. It is a member of the University Alliance, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the North West Universities Association, among others.
The Peel Park Campus, which is located along the banks of the River Irwell, is the main campus of the University of Salford. Pathways, parking lots, green spaces, and buildings hosting high-end academic, administrative, and support facilities and services make up the campus. The Clifford Whitworth Library on campus houses a large collection of written and digital materials that students and faculty can use for studying, teaching, and research. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and offers peaceful study areas as well as access to laptops and PCs. The Salford Museum and Art Gallery, England's first free public library, is also located on campus.
The institution has a sports centre with a 25-meter pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and a multi-purpose auditorium where Pilates, yoga, and Zumba lessons are held. The university provides lodging for students in two of the university's accommodation villages, Peel Park Quarter and John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts, with postgraduate students preferring the latter. Peel Park Quarter, in particular, was rated by Student Hut as the second-best student accommodation in the UK. The main campus has cutting-edge recreation amenities such as a gymnasium, cafeterias, restaurants, food outlets, and theatres. There are seven academic schools at the university, as well as language centres. Students can study law, health, zoology, management, business, economics, engineering, psychology, and accounting in undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, distance-learning, and diploma programmes at the institution. There are also over 50 student-run organisations and clubs on campus that cater to a variety of social, academic, and personal interests. These organisations and societies coordinate and arrange a variety of activities, competitions, and festivities on and off campus in order to keep students interested while also promoting cultural unity and relationship building. The institution has a total student population of around 19,995, with 2,781 administrative staff members.

The University of Salford has a long history of working with companies to improve its traditional nursing, manufacturing, and sports medical capabilities.
Salford graduates were 83 percent satisfied with their university experience, according to the National Student Survey 2020. Salford University was one of the first to offer a year-long internship as part of a'sandwich' degree. Students at MediaCity will work alongside the BBC and six national agencies and firms, including Adobe and BAE Systems, in a working studio environment.
InterLINK is a University of Salford programme that connects prospective international students with students who are already experienced with living in the United Kingdom and studying at Salford. InterLINK advisors are UK students who will offer international students courteous guidance and assistance as they adjust to living and learning at the university.
