he University of Waikato, based in the city of Hamilton in New Zealand’s North Island, is one of New Zealand’s leading research universities, made up of seven faculties and schools, with more than 12,000 students, including 2000 international students.
The main campus covers 64 hectares of landscaped gardens and lakes, with extensive sporting and recreational areas and has four Halls of Residence.
Many international students take the opportunity to study at our coastal campus in Tauranga.
We have recently launched a new international scholarship specifically aimed at high achieving international students from selected countries.
As an international student studying at undergraduate level, you are required to meet English language and academic entry requirements.

Our four halls of residence are the perfect place to settle into university life, meet new people and gain more independence in a safe and secure environment.
Three of our halls have both fully catered and self-catered options, and the other is solely self catered. We only have on-campus accommodation in Hamilton.
Flatting is when you share accommodation with other students in a private house located off campus. The cost of flatting per week for each person (based on recent figures with 2-4 flatmates) is between NZ$100-$140 for a room, plus food and utilities.
In the Bay of Plenty region a large number of students flat or board in privately owned accommodation. There are various options available to students looking for affordable accommodation in the Tauranga region. Additional listings are posted regularly on student accommodation websites.
