Southern Cross University is a progressive, young and connected regional research university, with vibrant campuses in two states. They are in locations of extraordinary natural beauty and creativity: Coffs Harbour in the Mid North Coast and Lismore in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. Southern Cross University’s fastest-growing campus is uniquely located at the Gold Coast Airport in southern Queensland, overlooking Kirra Beach.

We also offer degrees in Sydney and Melbourne at branch campuses and through The Hotel School in partnership with Mulpha Australia.

Many of our degrees are available in a dynamic online form. Whether studying on-campus, online, or both, we deliver exciting, contemporary and high quality learning experiences. We have a diverse and distinctive student body. Based on 2016 data 63.2 per cent of our students are first in family to attend University; we have an Indigenous participation rate of 4.1 per cent (compared to 1.6 per cent for the University sector), while our international profile includes students from more than 50 countries. We also deliver degrees with collaborators in China, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

Now in its 23rd year, we are in the top 100 of the Times Higher Education world’s best young universities for 2016.

We aim to produce graduates who are career ready, world ready and digitally literate, and who experience an academic environment distinctive for its personal approach.

Southern Cross University has a growing research profile, with 24 research areas identified ‘at or above world standard’ in the most recent Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) national evaluation. Our research strengths include disciplines as diverse as plant genetics, zoology, geoscience, oceanography, engineering, nursing, and complementary and alternative medicine.

Particular research strengths in the environmental sciences include marine science, and the University operates the National Marine Science Centre in Coffs Harbour.

The University has a strong focus on industry and community collaboration to produce engaged teaching and research outcomes. This connectivity is seeing Southern Cross University lead the $13.8m national Farming Together Pilot Program, partnering with the Northern Rivers Co-operatives Alliance and the Australian Government.

The University has also introduced an important new Centre for Organics Research with the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

We strongly recommend you book short stay accommodation before committing yourself to a long term lease. On arrival the accommodation officer will assist you in finding and securing more permanent accommodation once you are familiar with the area.
Students attending the Gold Coast campuses live off-campus. The most popular type of off-campus accommodation is a house or unit shared with other students, where students do their own cooking and share the cost of household expenses. Both furnished and unfurnished off-campus rental accommodation is available. For more information about off-campus accommodation options visit: Unistays
